Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Elk Grove public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Traffic signal timing at Waterman and Rancho Drive
Residents repeatedly asked for a signal at Waterman and Rancho, but city staff said the intersection doesn't currently meet signal warrants and no CIP project exists. Commissioners will ask traffic engineers to explore alternatives before the October 15 hearing.
Pavement maintenance and road resurfacing
The city locked in a $4.33 million contract for slurry seal and pavement resurfacing citywide, plus SB 1 funding for next year's road projects. Smoother streets mean fewer pothole complaints and lower car repair bills.
Blue Line/Bus Rapid Transit Implementation Plan
The council accepted a two-year feasibility study for extending light rail from Cosumnes River College down Bruceville Road and Bighorn Boulevard to Elk Grove. Light rail scored highest on ridership but carries the biggest price tag — over $1 billion by some estimates — and the council wants more study of express service, regional connections, and new technologies before committing. This is a decades-long effort, not a promise of trains next year.
