Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Elk Grove public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Traffic Safety at Rancho Drive/Waterman Road Intersection
Residents say the Rancho/Waterman intersection is already dangerous and will get worse with 120 new homes, but the city's warrant analysis says it doesn't qualify for a traffic signal. The intersection improvement is in the roadway fee program but not the current five-year capital plan, and the project's fees ($1.5–1.8M) go into a pooled fund, not straight to this intersection.
Red-light camera expansion
Collisions and fatalities have climbed sharply in recent years, and the council voted to extend the Redflex contract to 2031 and add five new camera intersections to change driver behavior at the city's most dangerous crossings.
E-bike Regulations
Rising e-bike and scooter collisions and complaints pushed the city to write clear rules for where and how these devices can be used, including sidewalk and trail rules, speed limits, and fines. Police say education comes first, enforcement second.
